Server Software

  • Mac OS X: After running my site on Linux (Redhat, Fedora, and Ubuntu) for 7 years, I've switched to Mac OS X (Leopard) for my web hosting. It's got all the Unix-goodness of Linux with an unparalleled user interface.
  • Apache:The most widely used web server on the Internet.
  • MySQL: The best open-source, lightweight database available today.
  • Tomcat: This site relies on Java servlets and JSP. I used Tomcat in version 3, ditched 4 for Resin, but came back to Tomcat in v5 as it now integrates more easily with Apache.

Site Design

  • The site layout is derived from Six Shooter Media's beautiful Aqueous Light template. It is a fluid layout that resizes well and provides good accessibility.
  • Code highlighting in my blog entries is based on the GNU source-highlight utility.

Images

  • Strange icons: the random selection of icons along the side of the page are chosen from the nearly 500 made freely available by Zeldman.
  • Site Badges: The "Powered By" web site badges on the bottom of every one of my pages are from this tutorial.

Welcome!
